Step 1: Download Multikey and Devcon

The first step is to download the Multikey software and the Devcon tool from the internet. You can find the links to these files in the references section at the end of this article. Make sure you download the correct versions for your system architecture (32-bit or 64-bit). Extract the files to a folder on your computer, for example C:\Multikey.

Step 2: Disable Driver Signature Enforcement

The next step is to disable the driver signature enforcement on your Windows 8 64-bit system. This is necessary because Multikey is not digitally signed by Microsoft and Windows will not allow you to install it otherwise. To disable driver signature enforcement, follow these steps:

  • Press the Windows key + C to open the charms bar.

  • Click on Settings and then Change PC Settings.

  • Click on General and then Restart Now under Advanced Startup.

  • After your PC restarts, click on Troubleshoot and then Advanced Options.

  • Click on Startup Settings and then Restart.

  • After your PC restarts again, press F7 to select Disable Driver Signature Enforcement.

Your PC will boot normally with driver signature enforcement disabled.

Step 3: Install Multikey

The third step is to install Multikey using the Devcon tool. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Open a command prompt with administrator rights. You can do this by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting Command Prompt (Admin).

  • Navigate to the folder where you extracted Multikey and Devcon, for example C:\Multikey.

  • Type the following command: devcon install multikey.inf root\multikey

  • The command prompt should display a message that the installation was successful.

  • Reboot your PC.

After rebooting, you should see a new device called MultiKey USB Dongle Emulator in your Device Manager.

Step 4: Install Vusbbus

The final step is to install Vusbbus, which is a virtual USB bus driver that allows you to attach and detach virtual USB devices. To install Vusbbus, follow these steps:

  • Open a command prompt with administrator rights again.

  • Navigate to the folder where you extracted Vusbbus, for example C:\Multikey\Vusbbus.

  • Type the following command: vusbbus.exe -i

  • The command prompt should display a message that the installation was successful.

  • Reboot your PC.

After rebooting, you should see a new device called Virtual USB Bus Enumerator in your Device Manager.

Conclusion

You have successfully installed Multikey emulator on Windows 8 64-bit. You can now use your virtual USB dongles without any problems. To use them, you need to create a registry file with the information of your dongle and load it using MultiKey GUI or Regedit. You can find more details on how to do this in the references section below. We hope this article was helpful and informative for you.
