How to Download 3DMark 99 for Testing Your Old PC




3DMark 99 is a legacy benchmark that was released in 1998 by Futuremark (now UL Solutions). It uses DirectX 6 and Remedy's MAX-FX engine to test the performance of your PC's graphics card and CPU. It features two game tests: Helicopter and Adventure, which showcase hardware transform and lighting, bump mapping, and LOD scaling. If you have an old PC that you want to test or reminisce with, you can download 3DMark 99 for free from the UL Solutions website. In this article, we will show you how to download and run 3DMark 99 on your PC.

Step 1: Check the system requirements for 3DMark 99




Before you download 3DMark 99, you need to make sure that your PC meets the minimum system requirements for running the benchmark. According to the UL Solutions website, these are the minimum system requirements for 3DMark 99:


  • Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP



  • Pentium II processor or equivalent



  • 32 MB of RAM

  • 100 MB of free hard disk space

Step 2: Download 3DMark 99 from the UL Solutions website

Step 3: Install and activate 3DMark 99 on your PC




After downloading 3DMark 99, you need to install it on your PC. To do so, double-click on the downloaded file (3dmark99max.exe) and follow the instructions on the screen. You may need to accept a license agreement and choose a destination folder for the installation.


Once the installation is complete, you need to activate 3DMark 99 with a key and a username. You can find these on the UL Solutions website under the download link for the benchmark. The key is 78TR2-8DBDU-BMXXS and the username is Futuremark. Enter these in the activation window that appears when you launch 3DMark 99 for the first time.


Step 4: Run and configure 3DMark 99 on your PC




Once you have activated 3DMark 99, you can run it on your PC. You will see a main window with several options and tabs. You can choose to run a default benchmark, which will run both game tests (Helicopter and Adventure) at a resolution of 1024 x 768 with default settings, or you can customize your own benchmark by selecting different options and settings.


You can also access some features and information from the main window, such as:


  • A demo mode that shows a fly-through of both game tests with music and sound effects.



  • A project info tab that shows some details about the benchmark, such as version number, release date, and credits.



  • A system info tab that shows some information about your PC's hardware and software configuration.



  • A results tab that shows your benchmark score and some statistics about your performance.



  • A compare tab that allows you to compare your score with other users online.
