Ediabas Inpa works with most BMW models from 1996 to 2018, including E series, F series, G series and I series. However, some newer models may require additional software or hardware to access all functions.


How to Download and Install Ediabas Inpa in Deutsch?




To use Ediabas Inpa, you need a laptop with Windows 10 and an OBD cable that is compatible with your BMW model. You also need to download and install the Ediabas Inpa software suite in Deutsch. Here are the steps to do so:

  • Select your BMW chassis from the menu bar. For example, if you have an E46, select E46.



  • Select your ECU group from the menu bar. For example, if you want to diagnose the engine, select Engine.



  • Select your ECU model from the list. For example, if you have an M54 engine, select M54.



  • Wait for the communication to be established. You should see some information about your ECU on the screen.



  • Select F4 (Error Memory) to read and clear the fault codes. You can also select F5 (Status) to monitor live data, F6 (Activate) to activate components, F7 (Reset) to reset adaptations and F8 (Control Unit Functions) to access other functions.

If you want to change some settings or features of your BMW, you can use Ediabas Inpa and NCS Expert to code your BMW. Coding is the process of modifying the values of some parameters in your ECU. Here are the steps to do so:


  • Connect your OBD cable to your laptop and your BMW. Make sure the ignition is on but the engine is off.



  • Run NCS Expert.exe from the Bin folder on your laptop. You should see a window with some buttons and menus.



  • Select File -> Load Profile and choose a profile that suits your needs. For example, if you want to code with expert mode, select Expertmode.



  • Select F1 (VIN/ZCS/FA) to read your vehicle information.



  • Select F3 (ZCS/FA f.ECU) and choose your ECU group. For example, if you want to code the body module, select E46 and then CAS.



  • Select F6 (Back) and then F4 (Process ECU) and choose your ECU model. For example, if you want to code the light module, select LCM.



  • Select F2 (Change Job) and choose CODIERDATEN_LESEN. This will read the current coding data from your ECU.



  • Select F3 (Execute Job) and wait for the process to finish. You should see a message saying "Coding ended" at the bottom of the window.



  • Open NCS Dummy.exe from the Bin folder on your laptop. This is a tool that will help you modify the coding data in a user-friendly way.



  • Select File -> Open FSW_PSW.TRC and choose the file that was created by NCS Expert in the Work folder on your laptop.



  • Select File -> Open FSW_PSW.MAN and choose an empty file in the same folder.



  • Select Options -> Select Chassis and choose your BMW chassis. For example, E46.



  • Select Options -> Select Module and choose your ECU model. For example, LCM.



  • You should see a list of parameters and their values on the left side of the window. You can change any value by clicking on it and choosing a new value from the drop-down list on the right side of the window.



  • When you are done with modifying the coding data, select File -> Save FSW_PSW.MAN and save it in the same folder as before.



  • Go back to NCS Expert and select F1 (Change Job) and choose SG_CODIEREN. This will write the new coding data to your ECU.



  • Select F3 (Execute Job) and wait for the process to finish. You should see a message saying "Coding ended" at the bottom of the window.

If you want to update the software of your BMW ECUs, you can use Ediabas Inpa and WinKFP to program your BMW. Programming is the process of flashing new firmware or data to your ECUs. Here are the steps to do so:


  • Connect your OBD cable to your laptop and your BMW. Make sure the ignition is on but the engine is off.



  • Run WinKFP.exe from the Bin folder on your laptop. You should see a window with some buttons and menus.



  • Select File -> Import/Export -> Import Assembly Line Data and choose the file that matches your BMW chassis from the DATA folder on your laptop. For example, if you have an E46, choose E46ALINK.IPO.



  • Select File -> Import/Export -> Import PABD and choose the file that matches your BMW chassis from the DATA folder on your laptop. For example, if you have an E46, choose E46PABD.IPO.



  • Select File -> Import/Export -> Import P-SGBD and choose the file that matches your ECU model from the SGDAT folder on your laptop. For example, if you want to program the engine ECU, choose MS430DS0.PRG.



  • Select Comfort Mode from the menu bar and click on Update ZUSB button. You should see a list of ECUs and their current software versions.



  • Select your ECU model from the list and click on Done button. You should see a window with some information and options.



  • Select Program from the menu bar and click on Start button. You should see a window with some progress bars and messages.
